Your Life in HD: Strategy and Decision-Making Authority

Up to now, we’ve explained different human design concepts that help to explain your uniqueness.

But at the end of the day, what does that knowledge mean for you? Where can it lead? Well, as the founder of human design said many years ago:

“The only thing you can do in this life, the only thing that really matters, is that you operate correctly as yourself.”

One of the basic principles of human design is that each person on earth is designed to operate a certain way, a specific mode of being, which makes efficient use of their energy, reduces resistance, and moves that person through life in the most advantageous way. And the two most basic components of what we call “operating as yourself” are the concepts of strategy and decision-making authority.

These are the two halves of a non-mental process, which is central to your human design experiment.

There are two main effects of living according to your strategy and decision-making authority.

First, when you free your mind from making decisions, you remove resistance from your life, because the mind was never intended to be a decision-making apparatus. The unconscious strategies and decision-making authorities are rooted in our bodies’ deep evolution and don’t depend on thought, contemplation, or “weighing the pros and cons” to make the right choice. These two essential tools are the only reliable means of bypassing frustration, anger, disappointment, and bitterness, which are byproducts of the mind’s attempt to make choices it isn’t designed to make.

Second, by freeing the mind from decision-making, you allow it to function in an awakened state of heightened awareness. This allows you to use your mind to its powerful advantage as an organ of wonder and inspiration – to remember, measure, and ponder.

Think about it like this.

In warehouses, heavy machinery operators are able to move forklifts and loaders up and down narrow aisles with only inches of clearance on either side. How are they able to do this? They do it by locking the machine’s guidance system onto an electronic “track” running down the center of the aisle in a perfectly straight line. Once the system is engaged, the operator can move the multi-ton machine forward and backward without needing to worry about it hitting anything, because so long as the guidance system is functioning properly, the machine can’t hit anything. It literally can’t wiggle, can’t swerve, can’t veer; it can only go straight forward and straight back in a smooth and effortless manner.

Now suppose for a minute that the operator attempted to go up and down the aisle WITHOUT the guidance system engaged, by paying close attention and making minor adjustments to steering along the way. Since there’s such little margin for error, the operator will have to go very slowly, stopping frequently and making stressful adjustments to avoid hitting the sides of the aisle. The chances of making it from one end of the aisle to the other without smashing into the sides (or without being completely stressed the entire time) are very, very small. While it’s POSSIBLE to get from one end of an aisle to the other in this manner, it is far less efficient than using the electronic guidance system.

This example illustrates the simple truth that the shortest distance between two points is a straight line. So the question is… how do you create and follow straight lines in your life? Well, you do it by understanding and following your strategy and decision-making authority.

Like those heavy warehouse machines, we each have a built-in guidance system, only ours is far more complex. The innate intelligence of our bodies predates the advanced cognition of our brains by hundreds of thousands, even millions of years. Without these built-in mechanisms, human beings would never have made it very far in the evolutionary race. Human design doesn’t just describe the different modes of being; it provides an instruction manual for understanding and using them in your life.

Let’s break down the fundamentals:

As we explained in the “The Basics” of human design, strategy is “…the most efficient pathway through which to utilize your energies in life.”

Strategy is tied to energy type, which means that every manifestor on the planet has the same strategy. Same with generators, manifesting generators, projectors, and reflectors. Their strategies are built into their basic energetic blueprint. It’s that simple. There’s a whole lot more to understand about the four strategies, but each one can be reduced down to simple “strategy mantras”:

Manifestors: “Inform, then perform.”

Generators and Manifesting Generators: “Wait, don’t initiate.”

Projectors: “Wait for the invite.”

Reflectors: “Wait 28.”

Take a moment to reflect on your energy type’s strategy mantra. Does it resonate with you? Confuse you? A bit of both? That’s about the same reaction we had, so you’re not alone! (Remember, this is just an introduction.)

That's your strategy.

Decision-making authority is a bit more complicated because it isn’t necessarily determined by your energy type but rather the qualities of your channels and centers. As we explained in “The Basics,” decision-making authority (or “DMA” for short) is:

“… the innate cornerstone of your decision-making process, the deep wisdom of your body – separate from the mind – that points you in the right direction.”

There are seven possible decision-making authorities, and each one is substantially different from the next. Each person on earth only has ONE, which makes it easy to remember once you know which one you have, but it truly takes a lifetime of experimentation to understand and fully embrace your decision-making authority.

But that’s the beauty of all this!

Every bit of knowledge you glean from human design, every new insight you gain about yourself, and every proactive step you take in your life to incorporate this wisdom will utterly transform your outlook and ability to truly live, happy and fulfilled, as yourself.

Now that we’ve reached the end of this series dedicated to “Your Life in HD,” the journey only gets more exciting from here on out. As we mentioned, we’re here to help, and we want to make your human design experiment as rewarding and life-changing as our own continue to be. From the team here at HD&Me, happy travels – and stay curious!
